The main objective of the workshop is to allow participants who are national and local actors of the Mekrou Basin in Benin to assess the draft reports of the three studies and get their amendments for improvement.
Participants validated the results of three studies and made some recommendations including the setting up of the necessary synergies for the project to help strengthening the ongoing IWRM process in Benin and in the Niger Basin; to invite the Municipalities, DG Water and partners organizations such as CENAGREF in helping the Management Unit in the advocacy with donors for the mobilization of additional financial resources; to ensure the development of a knowledge management mechanism based on that of the NBA among others.
Restitution workshops were organized at the local level (Workshops in Péhunco on December 16 for Kouandé, Kérou and Péhunco municipalities together; in Karimama on December 15 and December 16, 2014 for Banikoara) around the results of these studies.
The Cotonou workshop helped to capitalize the various contributions and comments made by the municipal and national actors to the results of the studies conducted in 2014 as part of IWRM project Mékrou and validate them. Beyond the validation of the studies, the workshop allowed greater ownership of the IWRM Mékrou Project by the actors, both at national and local levels.
In Burkina Faso and Niger
CWP Burkina had already approved in December 2014 the results of studies carried out on the same topics and ensured that the finalization of the report of the studies by the Consultant takes into account all the recommendations of the workshop. The Final Report was published by CWP Burkina Faso and transmitted to GWP-WA.
CWP Niger has meanwhile received the draft reports from the consultants and the validation workshop is scheduled for the second half of February, 2015.
