SOS from CSO: The Great Walk for Water to rescue Lake Chad

A series of activities called The Great Walk for Water initiated by some NGOs will be held from 22 February to 22 March 2015 to draw the World attention on the future "disappearance" of Lake Chad, if nothing is done. This great walk for water is a media caravan, actions and multidisciplinary activities to advocate for an increased attention on the situation of National and International Watercourses in Africa in general and especially the Lake Chad.



It intends to contribute to the understanding of the situation of rivers and countries that walk will cross. It could contribute to the development of tourism sectors, Culture, Crafts and fisheries.
The Walk will go through eight (8) countries including 3 not members of the Commission of the Lake Chad Basin (LCBC) and three large basins of West Africa namely the Senegal Basin, the Niger basin and the Volta Basin. It will start in Senegal to pass through Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Nigeria, Cameroon and Chad.

There will tree plantations on sites reserved for the Great Green Wall, in 8 countries crossed by the Walk, and meetings between organizations, associations, communities and participants visited.
An international organization committee is set up.
