Water-Food-Energy-Ecosystem Nexus initiative: West Africa well represented

Nine (9) countries across Africa among which four (4) are from West Africa (Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali and Nigeria) met in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 18-19 May to take a step further on the national consultations carried out in 2015 that led-up to the UN Committee on Food Security’s (UN CFS) 42nd session

The Addis Abeba meeting was to bring together the countries to exchange on the challenges raised in the reports from the national consultations in the framework of a new innovative initiative based on the “Partnership for Development” principle in the UN Sustainable Development Goal #17. This initiative aims not only to support governments in addressing a particular challenge of managing water and food security in an integrated holistic manner but also for all the countries involved across Africa to exchange experiences, learn from each other and eventually disseminate good practices for improved livelihoods. It is expected to contribute to the achievement of the SDG #2 to End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture.

GWP West Africa will coordinate the implementation of the initiative together the countries whose representatives took part in the meeting.
