Contribute to the implementation of the PANGIRE NIGER

The Mekrou Project Pase 2 participates in the operationalization of the National Action Plan for Integrated Water Resources Management (PANGIRE) of Niger, in the Niger portion of the Mekrou sub-basin, whose development objective in connection with its implementation is to promote socio-economic development, poverty alleviation, environmental conservation and improvement of the resilience of human and natural systems to climate change.

Niger's PANGIRE is based on four (4) components namely : (i) Component 1: Improvement of knowledge of water resources; (ii) Component 2: Mobilization and development of natural resources and development of socio-economic activities; (iii) Component 3: Preservation of the environment and development of resilience to climate change; and (iv) Component 4: Improvement of water governance and capacity-building.
The Action is in line with Priority 1 of the restricted call for proposals. Indeed, the project falls within the framework of the implementation of the Niger PANGIRE and at the same time of the Shared Vision 2025 and PADD 2025, which constitute the frameworks for operationalizing Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and related principles throughout the Niger River Basin, including Niger. The Mekrou Phase 2 Project also contributes to the implementation of the Mekrou Basin SDAGE.
