Action 9 - Intersectoral and sustainable steering of the IWRM process

In 2019, under the leadership of Cameroon Ministry of Water and Energy and with the technical support of GWP Central Africa, stakeholders from national government agencies, development partners, NGOs, civil society, and the private sector came together to define a series of strategic actions for advancing on IWRM in Cameroon. The following action was defined as part of that process and identified as a priority action to be included in an action plan.

The purpose of this action is to ensure sustainable and cross-sectoral steering of the IWRM implementation process by establishing an institutional framework on water resources management in line with existing water law. The framework will consider the interests of all stakeholders as well as the impact of water management on aquatic ecosystems. It includes a review of the Water Management Units for better implementation of IWRM, after an analysis employing integrated hydrological models for decision support and taking into account the climate-surface water-groundwater nexus.
