In 2021, with the lead of the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity (GRUN) and with the technical support of GWP Central America through the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme, a wide number of public-private actors in the water sector worked together to define appropriate and strategic responses for advancing in IWRM. The following action was defined as part of that process and identified as a priority action included in the action plan.
The purpose of this action is to develop several climate risk management instruments. In particular, it is planned to formulate special drought and flood plans, a sectoral adaptation plan aligned with IWRM, project proposals to modernise and strengthen the national hydrometeorological and hydrographic network and to develop a system to monitor loss and damage linked to extreme hydrometeorological events. In addition, it aims to reinforce the community Early Warning Systems (EWS) within SINAPRED, based on a prioritisation of drought- and flood- related threats.
