Nicaragua - Management Instruments

Action 11 – Design territorial water management plans

In 2021, with the lead of the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity (GRUN) and with the technical support of GWP Central America through the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme, a wide number of public-private actors in the water sector worked together to define appropriate and strategic responses for advancing in IWRM. The following action was defined as part of that process and identified as a priority action included in the action plan.

The purpose of this action is to lay out the guidelines to prepare IWRM plans for hydrographic basins, to develop and/or update hydrological plans for two pilot basins for Nicaragua's Pacific, central and northern regions. Additionally, it also aims to prepare and implement two pilot plans for municipal water resources management.
