Action 8 – Design strategies to include vulnerable groups in IWRM

In 2021, with the lead of the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity (GRUN) and with the technical support of GWP Central America through the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme, a wide number of public-private actors in the water sector worked together to define appropriate and strategic responses for advancing in IWRM. The following action was defined as part of that process and identified as a priority action included in the action plan.

The purpose of this action is to create strategies, mechanisms and guidelines to involve vulnerable groups in IWRM projects, by taking into account local and ancestral knowledge in their development. Moreover, it aims to achieve this goal by setting up training on IWRM issues, monitoring tools and through the identification of vulnerability factors for technicians from regional and territorial governments of indigenous and Afro-descendant communities on the Nicaraguan Caribbean Coast.
