Action 4 - Improve wastewater treatment plants and legal framework in rural communities

With the support of UNDP (through the GoAL WaterS programme) and GWP, a multi-stakeholder platform was created in Armenia to work on creating an enabling environment for the Government of Armenia to promote and implement the country’s commitments to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The goal was to design long-lasting, efficient mechanisms for implementation monitoring of SDG 6 targets. The result of this process was a series of actions to improve SDG 6 capacity in the country.

This particular action focuses on improving wastewater management in rural communities. It aims to do so by constructing and commissioning wastewater treatment plants operating with innovative technologies, establishing standards for discharging wastewater into sewerage systems and developing effective management models to attract investments, regulating the process of connecting to the sewerage network of economic entities by reviewing existing procedures and developing incentive mechanisms.
