Action 10 - Increase the status of strategic river basin plan as the basic document for planning economic activities in a basin according to IWRM and the SDGs

Between 2018 and 2019, the Ministry of Agriculture, in cooperation with the Country Water Partnership of Kazakhstan, brought together stakeholders from government agencies, river basin organisations, development partners, NGOs, civil society, academia, and the private sector to define a series of strategic actions for advancing on IWRM in Kazakhstan. The following action was defined as part of that process and identified as a priority action to be included in an action plan.

The purpose of this action is to strengthen water legislation in the country by amending the Water Code to promote the status of the General Plans for the integrated use and protection of water resources (SKIOVR). Specifically, it aims to make the SKIOVR the basic document for planning economic activities in a basin in line with IWRM principles and to advance in the SDGs.
