Between 2018 and 2019, the Ministry of Agriculture, in cooperation with the Country Water Partnership of Kazakhstan, brought together stakeholders from government agencies, river basin organisations, development partners, NGOs, civil society, academia, and the private sector to define a series of strategic actions for advancing on IWRM in Kazakhstan. The following action was defined as part of that process and identified as a priority action to be included in an action plan.
The purpose of this action is to improve the water accounting system by improving the reporting form 2-TP (water farm) and including reporting on eco-releases and quality of water bodies based on the EU Water Directive. This action is deemed necessary because the accounting system is not complex, not automated, and does not account for lake levels (e.g. Balkhash lake).
