Action 9 - Adopt a new Water Code

Between 2018 and 2019, the Ministry of Agriculture, in cooperation with the Country Water Partnership of Kazakhstan, brought together stakeholders from government agencies, river basin organisations, development partners, NGOs, civil society, academia, and the private sector to define a series of strategic actions for advancing on IWRM in Kazakhstan. The following action was defined as part of that process and identified as a priority action to be included in an action plan.

The purpose of this action is to strengthen water legislation in the country by adopting a new Water Code. This action is deemed necessary as many recent amendments to the old water code have complicated, confused, and worsened the management of water resources in the country.
