In 2018, the Water Resources Commission and the Ghana Country Water Partnership, under the lead of the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, brought together stakeholders from national and county government agencies, development partners, NGOs, civil society, and academia to define a series of strategic actions for advancing on IWRM in Ghana. The following action was defined as part of that process and identified as a priority action to be included in an action plan. The purpose of this action is to strengthen hydrological and hydrogeological data collection and monitoring in the country to improve drought and flood risk profiling of basins and to enable resilience analysis when designing infrastructure. It aims to achieve this goal by identifying, rehabilitating, and appropriately equipping primary hydrological monitoring stations to deliver expected data (i.e. streamflow and water quality), after having assessed the needs with respect to technical and human resources.
