2013 World Water Day in Malaysia

On 31 March 2013 (Sunday), Water Association of Selangor Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya (SWAn) together with Rotary International District 3300 and Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) and event supported by Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ) and Malaysian Water Partnership (MyWP) had successfully organised the “Walk for Water 2013” at Dataran Petaling Jaya.


The program started at 8.15 am with warm up aerobic exercise conducted by two (2) gym instructors from True Fitness, Petaling Jaya. The participants then walked along a predetermined route approximating 2 kilometers. The walk was also accompanied by MBPJ enforcement vehicles, First Ambulance and two traffic police officers.

At the end of the walk, the participants received a “goodie” bag each as well as a ticket for lucky draw prizes. The lucky draw was held thereafter and we gave away 10 hampers and other prizes donated by sponsors. The event was also sponsored by True Fitness Petaling Jaya, Tesco Stores Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Snek Ku (NS Food Industries), Pucuk Rebung Corner, KLAZ Creation Media & Concept, Mubiplas Sdn Bhd, Puncak Niaga (M) Sdn Bhd and Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor, Malaysian Water Partnership (MyWP) and YBhg. Dato’ Donald Lim from Rotary District 3300.

A total of 160 people participated in this event comprising SWAn members, Rotary Club and IEM members together with members of the public. It was indeed a successful event with active participation by all those who attended. All the participants appeared pleased and expressed their wish to make this event an annual affair.

The event was also well received by the media with representatives from The Sun, The Star, Astro Awani, TV3 Media Prima, Utusan Malaysia, Nan Yang Siang Pau, China Press, Sin Chew Daily, Bernama TV and Kosmo attending during the walk. There was a press conference at the end of the programme led by the undersigned as the Deputy President of SWAn. We were informed that the event was featured at the prime time news on Astro Awani Channel 501.
