This paper raises important questions concerning access to piped water services, especially for the poor. As such, it could have ramifications for how communities and countries reach the water supply objectives of Sustainable Development Goal 6 and the 2030 Agenda. The paper finds that increasing block tariff (IBT) regimes fail the most basic of inclusive development tests. The Tanzania Water Partnership (TWP) has formalised its working relationship with the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Water and Irrigation. The signing of the MoU took place at the Ministry of Water and Irrigation Headquarters in Dar es Salaam on Monday 15 August 2016. 

Africa Water Week (AWW), the African continents premier biennial event on the water calendar was held in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania from 18-22 July, 2016. The sixth AWW was held under the theme “Achieving the SDGs on Water Security and Sanitation”. The theme was built on the success and deliberations of the 2014 5^th Africa Water Week on “Placing Water at the Heart of the post 2015 Development Agenda”. 

GWP is offering sponsorship for the online course in Integrated and Adaptive Water Resources Planning, Management and Governance, offered by McGill University’s Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

The AMCOW Secretariat in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Irrigation (Tanzania) will be holding the 6th Africa Water Week (AWW) and 10th General Assembly at Mwalimu Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from 18^th-22 July, 2016 under the theme ‘Achieving the SDGs on Water Security and Sanitation’.   The Tanzania Water Partnership has been co-opted by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation as one of the lead institutions constituting the National Organizing Committee (NOC) for the 6th Africa Water Week. Several members of TWP are part of the NOC.

A review meeting on the 1^st draft manuscript on the “Limpopo River Basin: Atlas of Our Changing Environment” took place in Johannesburg, South Africa on 23^rd and 24^th June, 2016. The planned outputs were met, as participants were able to discuss and strengthen the content; strengthen the visual impact of the atlas and identity case studies and hotspots. By the end of the meeting, the manuscript drafting team agreed to the comments submitted by participants which would once completed improve the content of the atlas and make it easy for planners to put to use. 

The Youth H₂O forum joined a number of stakeholders in commemorating World Water Day which fell on 22^nd March 2016. The day was commemorated in two different places. The main event was held in Choma Southern province on the 21^st March, and the other event was held in Lusaka at Mtendere Clinic. 

The Mauritius Youth Water Network (MYWN) is an association comprising youth from different organisations (government, NGOs and other civil society organisations).  The MYWN was set up in June 2015 following a National Youth Forum during the SADC Water Week. The forum brought together youth leaders to develop a national action plan for the implementation of the AMCOW Policy and Strategy on Mainstreaming Youth in the Water and Sanitation Sector and SADC Youth Strategy.

Dr. Kuiri Tjipangandjara, GWPSA’s Chairperson will be discussing “The State of Namibia’s Water Security: Assessment and Proposed Interventions”. The lectures will be held on 2 ^& 16 June, 2016 and attempt to quantitatively assess the state of water security in three regions in Namibia, namely the Central Area, North Central Area and Central Coastal Area. The results show that Namibia’s water security for the three areas varies from low to very low – ranking between 50-61%. Guided by the results from the respective Areas, the intervention options were identified, compared and contrasted.

Research and Development (R&D) Institutions have a key role to play in Africa’s economic renewal and sustainable development, by improving conservation and utilisation of the continent’s water resources through R&D efforts. In its stride to continue collaborating with R&D institutions, GWPSA’s Executive Secretary, Ms Ruth Beukman participated at a kick off of the NEPAD Networks of Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Water Sciences Phase II meeting held at the Southern Sun- The Cullinan hotel in Cape Town, South Africa from the 24^th to the 26^th of May, 2016.
