Continental Africa Water Investment Programme (AIP)

The Continental Africa Water Investment Programme (AIP) is a pan-African programme transforming the investment outlook for climate-resilient water and sanitation investments on the continent. The goal of the AIP is to mobilise USD30bn in investments by 2030 across Africa, while creating 5million indirect and direct jobs.

The AIP was initiated and is led by the Africa Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) through the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA), the African Development Bank, African Water Facility, the African Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW), the Infrastructure Consortium for Africa (ICA), and GWP through the Africa Coordination Unit.

The AIP implemented by national governments, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), River Basin Organisations (RBOs), with technical backstopping by the AIP Secretariat hosted by the Global Water Partnership Africa Coordination Unit.

The AIP is implemented through three support programmes:

  1. AIP Transboundary PIDA Water Investments Support Programme
  2. AIP Water, Climate, Development and Gender Support Programme, also known as AIP WACDEP-G
  3. AIP SDG Investments Support Programme
