The water sector was the first sector to incorporate adaptation to climate change into the National Development Plan, which influenced the government to request other sectors to do the same. Major investment in developing trust and a solid track record of technical support positioned GWP Zambia to influence the policy processes involved in drawing up the water chapter. The work carried out by GWP Zambia and other Partners with the WSAG has also helped advance the Zambia Water Resources Management Bill which is currently before Parliament.
Climate change mainstreamed in the Zambia Development Plan
The Zambian Government mainstreamed adaptation to climate change in the water chapter of the 6th National Development Plan. This is the result of close collaboration between the Ministry of Energy and Water Development, the Water Sector Advisory Group (WSAG) under the Ministry of Finance and National Planning, and other stakeholders fostered by GWP Zambia.
