This follows the appointment of Mr. Alex Simalabwi as Executive Secretary and CEO of the Global Water Partnership Organisation effective 1 February 2025. Alex will lead GWP's transformation and boost the organisation's mission on water security & climate-resilient investments. He will also serve as President of the Global Investments Programme (GIP) on water and climate-resilient investments, a new game-changing global initiative to be unveiled later this year.

Before his appointment as Interim Executive Secretary of GWPSA, Mr. Takawira served as the Senior Programme Lead. He began his career in water and environmental engineering consultancy before transitioning to the development sector, working with IUCN and GWP. With extensive experience in water resources management and development, he has worked across multiple African countries and has been actively involved in water resources planning at national, regional, and continental levels.
Mr. Takawira has also provided expertise in investment planning, project development, and financing. Through his work, he engages with policymakers, development finance institutions, international cooperating partners, private sector, government practitioners, and civil society at large.
