Action 4 – Strengthen mechanisms and instruments for public and private sector participation in IWRM
In 2022, the Global Water Partnership (GWP) South America supported the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MADES) in developing an IWRM Action Plan (PAGIRH), through a multi-stakeholder consultation process, as part of the commitments made by the country in the framework of the 2030 Agenda.
The result is an Action Plan containing 9 strategic actions with 44 specific activities to accelerate the implementation of IWRM in the country. The following action is part of this Action Plan and focuses on strengthening mechanisms and instruments for public and private sector participation in IWRM. The main activities contributing to this action are as follows:
- Approve the rules of procedure of the Inter-Institutional Coordination Committee for the Water and Sanitation Sector "CICOSAPS";
- Hold forums and seminars for the exchange of experiences that promote governance and effective participation of stakeholders in the management of water resources at the local level in the EBY's area of influence;
- Form an Alliance in the department of Itapúa with companies/industries interested in promoting better production practices and supporting IWRM in at least 2 pilot municipalities (based on the inventory of companies/industries);
- Promote roundtables with the private sector in the department of Itapúa in at least 2 pilot municipalities, to inform, discuss and coordinate support activities to improve local governance and IWRM.
