Action 5 – Advance multi-level knowledge generation on IWRM with the support of academia
In 2022, the Global Water Partnership (GWP) South America supported the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MADES) in developing an IWRM Action Plan (PAGIRH), through a multi-stakeholder consultation process, as part of the commitments made by the country in the framework of the 2030 Agenda.
The result is an Action Plan containing 9 strategic actions with 44 specific activities to accelerate the implementation of IWRM in the country. The following action is part of this Action Plan and focuses on advancing knowledge generation on IWRM at multiple levels with the support of academia. The main activities contributing to this action are as follows:
- Generate agreements between academia and public institutions to develop theses, studies, research related to IWRM and the resulting exchange of information;
- Design a course/ diploma for the training of water resource managers;
- Implement an environmental programme on surface and groundwater pollution to improve the culture of efficient water use in the population and other sectors;
- Develop materials for the environmental programme to inform the population and other sectors (audiovisuals, newsletters, etc.);
- Develop and deliver training programmes for water councils and key stakeholders on planning, monitoring and watershed management in close coordination with academia and key institutions.
