The water sector in Mongolia celebrates "World Water Day" every year. The United Nations has announced that the theme for the 2024 "World Water Day" is "Water for Peace". This year marks the 86th anniversary of the development of the water industry in Mongolia, the 65th anniversary of the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the Mongolian University of Science and Technology, and the 60th anniversary of the Department of Environmental Engineering and Plumbing. As part of the celebrations, the 18th Student Research and Theory and Practice Conference titled "Water: The Key to Development" was organized.
Mongolia faces water-related issues such as water resource availability and quality, inappropriate use and protection of water resources, water value, climate change, land use, water resource policy planning, water construction, and wastewater treatment systems. To address these problems, it is essential to increase the participation of university students, support their research work, and develop creativity.
A total of 32 students from different universities participated in the student research and theory-practice meeting. These universities include the Mongolian University of Science and Technology, the National University of Mongolia, the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences, the Mongolian University of Life Sciences, the University of Finance and Economics, and the Mongolian National Defense University. The students presented 19 articles, and the first round of judging was conducted on March 9th. The best 15 works were selected for the final presentation, which was held on March 22nd at the International Conference Hall of the 8th building of the university.
Every year, CWP-Mongolia provides support for students' conferences on World Water Day. They offer guidance and consultation to help organize this traditional event.
