To sensitize and brainstorm on solutions to these challenges, the Network of Youth for Water and Climate in Central Africa (RECOJAC), with support from the Global Water Partnership – Central Africa (GWP-CAf), organized a hybrid workshop on August 22nd, 2025. The workshop focused on promoting water security in a climate change context. The event gathered over 400 registered participants from Central Africa and other Francophone countries including Algeria, Burundi, and Senegal.
Discussions began with the presentation of the newly launched UNESCO Water Youth Strategy, an inclusive framework designed to enable meaningful participation of youth in shaping inclusive, adaptive, resilient, and sustainable water governance and management at all levels. The three-module training kicked off with a first module on the impacts of climate change on water resources in Central Africa, delivered by GWP-CAf’s regional coordinator, Djibrilla Mohamadou. The second module explored sustainable water resources management in a climate change context, emphasizing integrated approaches and adaptation measures. The third session focused on an overview of water security in Central Africa, highlighting the critical role of youth, governments, non-state actors, and financing in tackling urgent water challenges.
Participants engaged in insightful Q and A sessions to deepen their understanding of climate change and how they can be a part of the proposed solutions to address these challenges.
Key outcomes included strong interest in adopting the Youth Water Strategy as a reference tool, as well as a proposal to hold a follow-up regional workshop on Technology and Innovation in the water sector. This momentum reflects growing youth commitment to strengthening water resilience in the face of climate change.
