Yellow River Basin's Educational Excursion for Schoolchildren

On September 25, 2024, as a pivotal event within the 2024 National Science Day festivities, the "Hand in Hand, Knowlege Sharing Between Children and Experts" study tour unfolded at the esteemed North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power.

Fifty(50) pupils from the Yellow River Conservancy Commission Primary School took part in this collaborative endeavor, orchestrated by GWP China Yellow River Basin and the Yellow River Institute of Hydraulic Research (YRIHR).

The students' journey commenced with a captivating exploration of the water culture exhibition hall. Guided by the enthusiastic  experts via "Hand in Hand",  they delved into the stories of legendary water managers, traced the evolution of Yellow River management ideologies, witnessed the Party's pivotal role in shaping river governance history, and comprehended the indispensable significance of water in socio-economic progress. The dynamic LED displays and interactive touch screens illuminated the rich tapestry of Yellow River and water cultures, fostering a profound understanding in the young minds.

Concluding their excursion, the students ventured into the university's history exhibition hall, where they were warmly welcomed by their "Big Sisters." Here, they were introduced to the institution's illustrious 73-year journey, the symbolism embedded in its badge, and the achievements of notable alumni and leaders who have graced its halls. Since its inception in 1951, the university has upheld the creed of "Embracing Water, Ever Striving for Excellence," evolving into a comprehensive educational hub catering to 36,000 students, including cadres at the ministerial level.

This immersive experience underscored the theme of "Water: The Lifeblood of Civilization," instilling in the students an appreciation for technological innovation as the cornerstone of ecological rejuvenation and high-quality development within the Yellow River Basin. The opportunity to breathe in the vibrant university ambiance broadened their horizons, igniting aspirations for personal growth and inspiring them to aspire towards contributing to China's march towards prosperity and strength.

The remarkable progress achieved by GWP China Yellow River Basin in annual thematic campaigns aims at 'Enhancing Public Comprehension of Scientific Knowledge.' Since its inception in 2020, this initiative has gained significant momentum, reaching out to a crucial segment of society - school students aged 6 to 15.

Their efforts have yielded tangible results, with an impressive outreach that has consistently touched upon the lives of 500 students every year. This achievement underscores their commitment to fostering a generation of young individuals who are not only aware but also well-equipped with scientific knowledge, enabling them to contribute positively to societal development and environmental sustainability.

The campaigns are designed to be engaging, interactive, and relevant to the learning needs of the target audience. GWP China Yellow River Basin leveraged various platforms, including workshops, lectures, field trips, and online resources, to deliver compelling content that sparks curiosity and ignites a passion for science within the young minds. It is proud of the fact that their endeavors have crossed geographical boundaries, uniting students from diverse backgrounds under the common goal of enhancing their understanding of the intricate web of scientific principles and their implications on our daily lives.

Looking ahead, GWP China Yellow River Basin remains steadfast in the pursuit of expanding the scope and impact of these campaigns. It aspires to reach even more schools and students, ensuring that the benefits of scientific literacy extend to every corner of the region.
