The purpose of this activity was set to promote IWRM in Fujian Province and sustainable development of water resources for economic zone construction on the western coast of the Straits in Fujian Province and its future development.
This activity was carried out in two phases:
The first phase, from January to April, 2011, was on the IWRM and island water resources study. The GWP China Fujian and experts of Fujian Provincial Water Resources Department made an investigation on the status of island water resources and water consumption. The “Workshop on Fujian Island’s Water Resources” was held on April, 28, 2011 in Fuzhou, capital city of Fujian Province. The comments and recommendations made at the workshop covered the aspects of island functions, water supply means, desalting technologies of sea water, water conveyance network plan, water- saving and pollution control facilities.
The second phase was from April and August, 2011 with the subject of rural drinking water safety and integrated management of small watershed for IWRM in rural areas. During the last four months, Mr. Liu Ziwei, Deputy Director General of Fujian Provincial Water Resources Department and also the Honorary Chair of GWP China Fujian, and Mr. Bian Hongda, the Chair of GWP China Fujian, have carried out the studies in local areas of Fujian Province according to the subject and exchanged ideas and views with the local authorities and provided guidance for the promotion of the IWRM implementation in Fujian Province.
