Proposal for the Evaluation of Post-quake Rural Water Supply Facilities and the Capacity Building

The Wenchuan Earthquake on May 12, 2008 in Sichuan Province affected a large area and population in the province and the neighboring provinces particularly the Shaanxi and Gansu provinces, and it also jeopardized the water supply facilities, particularly, in rural areas. The reconstruction of the rural water facilities is one of key projects of Chinese government.

For better contribution towards post quake undertaking, GWP China, with financial support of DFID, vigorously convened water and sanitation programme offices in Shaanxi province and Sichuan province respectively to carry out evaluation of post quake rural water supply facilities and review of the capacity building amid reconstruction. The preparation and drafting of programme proposal were kicked off in September. After communication and discussion, GWP China, GWP China Shaanxi, the programme office of Shaanxi province and that of Sichuan province achieved common view on proposal, responsibilities and methods of implementation. DFID, at the end of this month, has approved the proposal and planned to put contract in place in October.
