The South African Development Community (SADC) in partnership with South Africa’s Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS), and the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA) hosted the South Africa SADC Water Week which took place from 29-31 July 2015.

The 7^th SADC Multi Stakeholder Water Dialogue, a biennial activity which provides a platform for regional stakeholders to discuss and share experiences on different aspects of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) will this year be held from the 29^th to the 30^th of September in Windhoek, Namibia. Running under the theme “Watering Development in SADC: The central role of water in driving industrialization” this year's Water Dialogue will focus on unpacking the role that water will play in driving industrialisation in the region. The Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA) and the Tanzania Water Partnership were engaged in a National Multi-Stakeholder – National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Training Workshop from 8-10^th July, 2015. The training was held at Stella Maris Hotel, Bagamoyo. The goal of this three day work-shop was to launch Tanzania’s NAP as well as to develop a common understanding of the issues that need to be addressed on the way forward.

A capacity building workshop focusing on project preparation and financing in Zimbabwe for climate resilient projects was held at Monteclair Hotel in Nyanga from the 26^th to the 28^th of July 2015. The workshop was attended by 21 participants from selected government Ministries, such as the Ministry of Environment, Water and Climate (MEWC). The workshop was aimed at equipping selected participants with information, knowledge and practical skills in the preparation of proposal writing involving mini hydro projects for possible funding.  The feasibility study focused on Siya Dam mini hydro power generation project.

UNITAR and GWP are extending an exclusive invitation to the January 2014 – June 2015 trainees of the AU-AMCOW-WACDEP Capacity Development Programme on the “Economics of Adaptation, Water Security and Climate Resilient Development” programme to undertake the UNITAR – GWP online assessment from 3-14^th July 2015.

A water, energy and food nexus demonstration project, under the Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP), is set to be implemented in the Tuli- Mtshabezi River Sub Basin of the Shashe sub catchment with emphasis at Mtshabezi Mission to build the resilience of the community around the Basin. As part of the preparatory work scheduled prior to project implementation, an exploratory site visit was undertaken by the team of consultants from the water, energy and food sector on the 17th of July 2015.

Over the years, the people of Seychelles have had an increased access to an improved drinking water source. Statistics show that access to water stood at 88.9% in 1990 and at 97 percent in 2010 respectively. Similarly, indicators of access to improved sanitation show an increase from 78% in 1994 to over 97% in 2012.

The SADC Water week in Zambia was held in Lusaka from 8th - 10 July 2015. It was a rich and fruitful event which brought together a variety of stakeholders to input into the formulation of the 4th SADC Regional Strategic Action Plan.

In a quest to leverage funding for projects in the water sector, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Climate (MEWC) in collaboration with the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) hosted a Water Resources and Infrastructure Investment Conference at Rainbow Towers in Harare from the 24^th to the 26^th of June 2015. The conference attracted more than 400 delegates and was officially opened by the Vice President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, the Honourable E.D Mnangagwa and was also graced by the Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation for the Republic of South Africa, the Honourable Pamela Tshwete and Minister of Environment, Water and Climate, the Honourable Saviour Kasukuwere.

The 16th WaterNet/WARFSA/GWP-SA symposium, under the theme “Integrated Water Resources Management and Infrastructure Planning for Water Security in Southern Africa”, will be held at Le Meridien lle Maurice Hotel, Mauritius from 28 - 30 October 2015.
