AIP Technical Reference Group established, begins work towards AIP Water Investment Scorecard

The Africa Water Investment Programme (AIP) Technical Reference Group, which will provide technical expertise in the implementation of the AIP, held its kick-off meeting virtually on the 9th December 2020.

The AIP Technical Reference Group, or ARG, will be co-chaired by the Technical Advisory Committee Chair of the African Ministers Council on Water (AMCOW) and Dr. Torkil Jønch Clausen, senior advisor to Global Water Partnership Organisation, Chair of the Scientific Programme Committee at Stockholm World Water Week, and Governor of the World Water Council.

There are 15 technical experts in ARG; geographically spanning all 5 regional water partnerships in Africa as well as internationally. Their areas of expertise cover the key work themes in the AIP and GWP strategy – food security, gender transformation, WEF Nexus, water law and governance, transboundary water investments, project preparation and project finance, climate resilience, and integrated water resource management.

The first task of the ARG will be the development of the AIP Water Investment Scorecard, which will track progress in mobilising water investments in Africa and be presented to Africa Union Heads of State.

“The Africa Water Investment Scorecard will mobilise high level political and continental leadership to address the water investment infrastructure gap to meet socio-economic needs of the continent and meet the 2025 Africa Water Vision and 2030 SDG 6 on water and sanitation’, said Alex Simalabwi, GWPSA Executive Secretary and Head of Africa Coordination.
