The Third Council Meeting of the GWP Shaanxi

The 3rd Council Meeting of the GWP Shaanxi was held on November 13, 2012 in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province. The theme of the meeting is to review the working progress and financial report since its founding; to modify the statutes and to elect the second council members.

The new leadership was elected by voting after the work progress review, which was committed to promote the integrated management of water resources in Shaanxi Province.
WANG Feng, the director of the Water Resources Department of Shaanxi Province, attended the meeting and delivered a speech; GUAN Lihong, the deputy director, attended the meeting to present the approval of the new term of leadership of the Department of Water Resources; and ZHENG Rugang, the Secretary-General the GWP China, made a speech at the meeting. The members of participating the meeting totaled 80.
Mr. WEI Chengshou, the Vice Chair of the GWP Shaanxi, delivered a work report on behalf of the first term of the Council. His report provided a comprehensive review of the outcomes of the GWP Shaanxi since its founding in 2004. Over the past years, with the strong support of the GWPO, GWP China, Shaanxi Province Agricultural Work Committee of the NPC Standing Committee and the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Water Resources as well as other partners at all levels, the GWP Shaanxi invited people from various industries to participate to resolve the shortage of water resources in Shaanxi Province, floods and water pollution problems, promote the sustainable use of water resources, and to promote sustainable economic and social development. In eight years, from 2004-2011, they held over 40 activities, including 6 forum, 5 workshops, 3 on-site meetings, an exchange, a  seminar, 3 researches, 2 toolbox cases and 18 times of participation of activities organized by the GWPO, GWP China and other provincial partnerships. These activities were highly recommended by the GWPO and related departments.
The activities of the GWP Shaanxi in the past years achieved many remarkable progresses, four of which were particularly appreciated by the relevant organizations: the integrated management of Wei River had constructive progress through a set of activities held by the GWP Shaanxi; the drinking water security of rural schools programme was introduced to the national planning with RMB 2.74 million investment last year to enable 360,100 teachers and students to drink safe water; the “workshop of the compensation mechanism of water and soil reservation and ecology of the N-S water division project” held in April, 2008, promoted the related compensation laws development; the GWP Shaanxi facilitated the related agencies promote the development and implementation of the “practice of water law”.
