World Water Day 2019

This World Water Day, 22nd March, is about tackling the water crisis by addressing the reasons why so many people are being left behind. GWP joins the worldwide celebrations of the day, and shows online support on its newly launched Instagram account.

Sustainable Development Goal 6 is crystal clear: water for all by 2030. By definition, this means leaving no one behind. But today, billions of people are still living without safe water – their households, schools, workplaces, farms and factories struggling to survive and thrive.

Full details - plus stories and downloable resources - are available on the UN-Water event website.

GWP shows support on Instagram

GWP launched a new Instagram account in the lead-up to International Women's Day on 8 March. As part of this, GWP joined the global campaign #BalanceforBetter, and while this campaign continues throughout the year, the Instagram now also features GWP staff and Partners under the #LeavingNoOneBehind umbrella. With their photos, they answer the question: How is your region working to make sure that no one is left behind?

In an op-ed for IPS News agency, GWP Executive Secretary Monika Weber-Fahr writes on the topic: “Leaving no one behind is the central promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. That agenda includes the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), one of which – Number 6 – is about water. Part of that goal zeros in on work that has been piloted by GWP and its thousands of member organisations: integrating water resources management across all people and organisations that have a stake in water. The genius of this approach is that it has always been about inclusion."
