GWP’s key activities at COP29
GWP will participate in several key events to highlight its impactful work in water and climate resilience:
- 11 November, at 18:30-20:00 – Room 5 Blue Zone: UNFCCC Side-Event on Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems, Climate Services and Disaster Risk Management: Co-organised by GWP, discussions will be around the role of climate services and multi-hazard early warning systems in guiding resilient investments and achieving water-related Global Goals for Adaptation (GGA).
- 15 November, at 13:00-14:00 - Qatar Pavilion, Sarra Touzi, GWP’s Senior Water & Climate Resilience Specialist, will be speaking on Comprehensive Strategies for Adapting to Climate Change
- 15 November, at 15:00-16:30 - Water for Climate Pavilion, Sarra Touzi, GWP’s Senior Water & Climate Resilience Specialist, will be speaking on what the GGA water targets mean for water stakeholders and what are the means of implementation to achieve the GGA, including financing mobilisation) Find out more here and Link to Live Stream
- 16 November, at 14:15-16:15 - Kazakh Country Pavilion, Sarra Touzi, GWP’s Senior Water & Climate Resilience Specialist, will be speaking on Science Communication on the Climate Challenges
- 18 November, at 16:00-17:30 - during the Resilient Mitigation Day at the Water for Climate Pavilion, GWP co-organising. Will demonstrate integrated water management strategies that connect adaptation and mitigation and lead to co-benfits, focusing on the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus and Source to Sea approcah, sharing experiences from the SCCF Project of the GEF UNEP/MAP MedProgramme. - 19 November, at 9:30 – 11:00 – Morocco Pavilion, Sarra Touzi, GWP’s Senior Water & Climate Resilience Specialist, will be sharing experience of the innovative solutions implemented by GWP-Mediterranean on smart irrigation (Ghar El Melh- Tunisia) and generating water from the atmospheric humidity ( Greek Islands)
- 19 November, at 11:30- 13:00 – Mediterranean Pavilion, Chair of Global Water Partnership – Mediterranean, Prof. Michael Scoullos, will bespeaking on Climate Adaptation & WEFE Nexus (The MedECC Report on WEFE Nexus will be presented)
- 19 November, at 11:30-13:00 - South Africa Pavilion, Climate Information & Early Warning Systems to inform climate resilient infrastructure investments: GWP co-organsing with DBSA (Development Bank of Southern Africa) and will present innovative financing approaches to build climate-resilient infrastructure in Southern Africa’s water sector. - 19 November, at 14:00-15:00 – NDC Partnership Pavilion, Mainstreaming Nepal’s NDC into national plans, policies, regulations, and budgeting processes, organized by Government of Nepal, and GWP Nepal. The event will highlight how Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation (MoEWRI) is mainstreaming Nepal’s NDC, NDC Implementation Plan (NDCIP), and National Adaptation Plan (NAP) into national plans, polices, regulations, and budgeting processes for the water, energy, irrigation, hydrology, and meteorology sectors. - 19 November, at 17:30-19:00 - Africa Pavilion, Launch of AU-AIP GCF Multi-country Readiness Project, outlining the project objectives and facilitate sharing of information about the need to strengthen Africa’s capacity for developing investment programs and project pipelines to access climate and other finance. Water for Climate Pavilion
GWP will actively participate in the Water for Climate Pavilion, a collaborative space to engage with global water and climate experts. Through various sessions, GWP will promote water’s crucial role in climate adaptation and contribute to developing key messages. This includes pushing for the integration of water into UNFCCC Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA) indicators, and supporting Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs).
