This webinar showcases three cross-country initiatives aimed at managing drought in different sub-regions of Asia: (1) insights from Central Asia on the formulation and execution of the "Regional Strategy for Drought Risk Management and Mitigation in Central Asia for 2021–2030"; (2) advancements in climate change modeling and adaptation in the Middle East; and (3) experiences regarding collaborative efforts in crafting a "Regional Drought Risk Management Strategy in South Asia".
Our three expert speakers will offer practical insights into the potential advantages of adopting regional approaches to drought management. By pooling resources and expertise, regional frameworks can facilitate the development of comprehensive and sustainable solutions to mitigate drought risks and minimize their impacts. Nevertheless, establishing and executing regional programs entail various challenges, such as devising cost-sharing mechanisms, facilitating information exchange, and coordinating institutional efforts jointly. This webinar provides a unique opportunity to explore drought management frameworks through a regional perspective, delving into both their merits and challenges. This webinar will also mark the official launch of the UNCCD Community of Learning and Practice in Asia (CLP Asia). More information about the CLP Asia can be found here: Asia Community of Learning and Practice.
