About the Valuing Water Community
From 2019 to 2025, the Valuing Water Initiative (VWI), hosted by the Government of the Netherlands, has guided the implementation of the Valuing Water Principles (VWPs). Through its focus on finance, policy, gender advocacy, and youth leadership, the VWI has championed the integration of water’s diverse values into decision-making and its application across various fields. By convening stakeholders from different sectors and areas of expertise, the VWI has fostered a global movement to elevate the importance of the VWPs.
Building on this foundation, the Valuing Water Initiative (VWI), in partnership with the Global Water Partnership (GWP) and Deltares, is launching the Valuing Water Community to broaden the engagement and exchange of insights and experiences in applying the VWPs. Following the conclusion of the VWI programme in March 2025, the Valuing Water Community will continue to serve as the collaborative platform to foster global exchanges and collaborations on valuing water.
What is the Community for?
The Valuing Water Community aims to:
-
Encourage networking among diverse stakeholders to exchange knowledge and experiences related to inclusive water governance. This includes gender-focused water management, youth leadership, and regional initiatives like those in Latin America.
-
Promote dialogue and partnerships to support the development and use of effective water management tools, with a focus on empowering youth and integrating gender perspectives.
-
Showcase successful projects and initiatives that emphasise water governance and sustainability across sectors, particularly in the areas of gender equality, youth engagement, and Latin American water initiatives.
-
Share news, events, and case studies from different regions and sectors to build a comprehensive understanding of water’s value and encourage cross-sectoral cooperation.
-
Facilitate new research and project development by connecting experts, practitioners, and community members who share common interests in water governance and sustainability.
-
Raise awareness of water-related challenges, such as scarcity, governance gaps, and access issues, especially for marginalised groups like women and youth.
-
Foster the exchange of best practices for effective, inclusive, and sustainable water governance that supports long-term systemic change.
About the launch event
During the launch event we will be showcasing several valuing water initiatives and stories from around the world. We will also be launching the online community platform, a collaborative space where you will be able to post materials, exchange with others, and get updates about the latest news and opportunities related to valuing water. We look forward to having you with us at the launch event!
