The AWW5 conference theme is “Placing Water at the Heart of the Post-2015 Development Agenda”, with the following subthemes:
- Water, Sanitation and Hygiene
- Water Resources Management for Sustainable Development
- Wastewater Management and Water Quality
- Water and Disaster Risk Management
GWP is co-leading three of the four themes:
- Water Resources Management for Sustainable Development is being done in collaboration with the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA),
- Wastewater Management and Water Quality is being co-lead together with UN Habitat, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and UNESCO.
- Water and Disaster Risk Management is being co-lead together with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and also UNECA.
Additionally GWP is involved in side meetings at AWW5: a Regional Process Preparatory Meeting for World Water Forum 7 (WWF7) and a side event on Strengthening Institutions for Transboundary Waters in Africa (SITWA).
GWP Executive Secretary Dr. Ania Grobicki is scheduled to give a closing statement at the end of the week. The AWW5 website has detailed information about the event.
