Water-Climate Extremes & Hydro-Climate Services Specialist

GWP is recruiting a highly motivated, energetic, and well-versed Senior Water & Climate Specialist, with experience in an integrated approach to drought and flood management and climate services for better water resources management and water-related adaptation. The position is based at the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) Secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland, with extensive international travel. Deadline to apply is 13 March.

The Senior Water & Climate Specialist is a secondment to the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and will continue to operationalise the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the heads of WMO and GWPO on 06 June 2019 with the following priority areas:

  1. Strengthen the management of hydro-climatic extremes through the joint programmes on flood (APFM) and drought (IDMP);
  2. Strengthen the capacity of countries to develop high impact projects on water and climate;
  3. Strengthen stakeholder engagement on developing water information and products at the regional and country level; and
  4. Joint programmes, project development, service delivery and joint resource mobilisation.

In these priority areas, the senior specialist will ensure integration of the GWP Network in the work processes for continued development of the joint GWP-WMO Integrated Drought Management Programme (IDMP) and the GWP-WMO Associated Programme on Flood Management (APFM).

Language requirement: Fluency in oral and written English, a strong knowledge of Russian would be an asset, as would be fluency in Spanish and/or French.
