Global Water Partnership (GWP) has announced that Ms. Jaehyang So (“Jae”) is the new GWP Technical Committee Chair, effective April 1, 2022.
“Jae is an innovator with energy and entrepreneurial flair,” said Howard Bamsey, GWP Chair. “She has 30+ years of experience building international programs focused on water and sustainable development. This is precisely what GWP needs for its global positioning and for the network we serve.” The appointment is made by the GWP Steering Committee on which the Technical Committee Chair sits ex-officio.
Jae had an extensive career at the World Bank Group, working on sustainable development and finance, including infrastructure, water, urban development, gender, and public private partnerships. As Director, Trust Funds and Partnerships, she led the policy framework for the $45 billion in external funds under management by the World Bank. As Manager of the Water and Sanitation Program, she led the strategic vision and increased the Program’s capacity through a new business plan process and results-based management.
“Water is a critical contributor to society’s well-being, whether through economic growth or poverty alleviation. And it cuts across so many of the Sustainable Development Goals,” said Jae. “As an on-the-ground network, GWP can translate these high goals into real implementation. I look forward to deploying the GWP Technical Committee to position GWP as the ‘go-to’ network for knowledge and application.”
Jae led the World Bank engagement on the Sanitation and Water for All partnership and developed the World Bank PPI Database, the global industry standard for public private partnerships and investment in infrastructure. She served on the boards of the Global Water Challenge and the Water and Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council.
In 2017, Jae was awarded the Republic of Korea Prime Minister Citation for the Promotion of Gender Equality.
“Jae has been a leader in strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and cutting-edge knowledge,” said GWP’s Executive Secretary Darío Soto-Abril. “This combination will help GWP deliver its innovative programmes.”
Prior to joining the World Bank Group, Jae advised Fortune 100 level companies on corporate strategy. She holds an MBA and a BA in Economics from Stanford University.
