Global Outlook Council on Water Investments established

Comprising current and former Heads of State, global leaders, and senior public and private sector representatives, the Global Outlook Council on Water Investments will lead high-level engagement with G20 countries and other global leaders to transform water security systems amid the global climate emergency.

The Global Water Partnership Organisation (GWPO) and its Regional Water Partnerships around the world are embarking on a Global Transformation Agenda to accelerate and scale up mobilisation and deployment of climate-resilient water investments. At least USD 15 billion will be leveraged by 2030 and USD 500 million mobilised for GWP partners in collaboration with G20 member countries, Multilateral Development Banks, Climate Funds, and other partners.

H.E. Jakaya Kikwete, Former President of the Republic of Tanzania, has been appointed as the founding Co-Chair of the High-Level Global Outlook Council on Water Investments, which will drive the Transformation Agenda at the highest level of global leadership.

 

 

Honorable Pemmy Majodina, Minister of Water and Sanitation, South Africa, has accepted the invitation to join the Council in her capacity as host Minister responsible for water and sanitation in South Africa, the current Chair of the G20. 

 

 

 

 

Mr Henk Ovink, former Dutch Water Envoy, was nominated by the Netherlands and accepted the role with honour.

This council collaborates closely with G20 leaders to position water as a fundamental pillar for sustainable development”, said Henk Ovink, Executive Director, Global Commission on the Economics of Water, in a High-Level Consultation on Mobilising Commitments, held on 19–20 March, in Cape Town, South Africa.
