Launch event | About the Global Transformation Agenda | First two GWPO Technical Support Hubs announced
Ahead of World Water Day 2025, global leaders, policymakers, and development partners will gather in Cape Town, South Africa, for the High-Level Consultation on Mobilising Commitments Towards the AU-AIP Water Investment Summit in the context of South Africa’s G20 Presidency.
A key highlight will be the launch of the Global Transformation Agenda on Water Investments, a bold step to mobilise large-scale financing and high-level political commitment to accelerate climate-resilient water investments globally. At this high-level event, GWP will also unveil its new website, showcasing the organisation’s transformation and renewed global focus on climate-resilient water investments.
The Global Transformation Agenda aligns with South Africa’s G20 Presidency efforts to strengthen political engagement and financial mobilisation for water investments. Through the Continental Africa Water Investment Programme (AIP), GWP is working with South Africa and the African Union to convene the inaugural Africa Water Investment Summit in August 2025—a direct outcome of the AIP High-Level Panel.

About the Global Transformation Agenda on Water Investments
Spearheaded by GWP, the Global Transformation Agenda on Water Investments aims to:
👉 Drive high-level engagement with G20 and global leaders through the Global Transformation Council, comprising former and current Heads of State
👉 Scale up financial partnerships with MDBs, climate funds, and private investors to unlock new financing mechanisms.
👉 Decentralise the Global Water Partnership Organisation into 4 Technical Support Hubs across Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America & Caribbean, and Europe, working jointly with GWP Regional Water Partnerships to accelerate programming and delivery for climate resilience water investment solutions for countries and partners.
👉 Establish the GWPO Transition Office in South Africa to lead the transition and relocation of GWP’s global secretariat.
As part of this decentralisation effort, GWP is proud to announce the establishment of the first two hubs: the GWPO Technical Support Hub for Africa, embedded within the AIP Secretariat and hosted by GWP Southern Africa Coordination Unit, and the GWPO Technical Support Hub for Europe, embedded within GWP Mediterranean in Athens, Greece.
