In May 2011, the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI) signed a World Bank contract to produce their online training modules to assist small farmers to effect change against risks related to agricultural production in the Caribbean region.

In an effort to engage the youth and help them understand the value of access to potable water, the Grenada Community Development Agency (GRENCODA) held a four-day Student Assistance Programme (SAP) Camp for students between the ages of 12-16 years under the theme “Water a Critical Development Resource, Seriously Challenged.”

The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) Secretariat had the unique experience of spending the day at the headquarters of its newest partner, the Toco Foundation on September 14^th, 2011.

Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) together with representatives from the Projects Unit of the National Institute of Higher Education Research, Science and Technology (NIHERST) had the opportunity to meet with two (2) Women’s Groups in rural Trinidad on October 21^st, 2011, to discuss a future renewable energy project to benefit their communities.

Caribbean Ministers with responsibility for water, along with regional water managers and other experts, met to discuss “Water Management Financing in the Caribbean” at the GWP Caribbean and the Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association’s (CWWA) 7th Annual High Level Session (HLS) on October 6-7, 2011, in Guadeloupe. One of the major issues at the Ministerial Forum was the need for regional governments to decide whether water utilities are to be run as a social service or a business.

Government Ministers with responsibility for water in the Caribbean are scheduled to meet at the 7th Annual High Level Session (HLS) Ministerial Forum on October 6th and 7th, 2011 in Guadeloupe. The HLS is convened annually by the Global Water Partnership Caribbean in collaboration with the Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association (CWWA).

Global Water Partnership Caribbean continues to engage in a series of public education activities targeted at building awareness on rainwater harvesting as a means of water conservation. Its latest outreach was to more than 1,000 students and teachers from 42 schools in Trinidad and Tobago.

GWP Caribbean and Caribbean WaterNet in collaboration with the Government of Grenada, the National Water and Sewerage Authority (NAWASA) and the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), held a three-day workshop in Grenada on ‘Hydro-Climatic Hazards in Water Resources Management’, May 16-18, 2011.

GWP Caribbean developed a rooftop rainwater harvesting system as a way to address water security in rural communities.
