The Central and Eastern Europe region of the Global Water Partnership (GWP CEE) has called for pollution prevention and the regular inspection of polluter operations in light of the toxic sludge disaster in Hungary.

Located in the Baltic Sea Basin, water quality management is one of the Poland's key issues, creating problems for people’s livelihoods and the environment. Due to year-to-year variability in its water resources, devastating floods and local water scarcities are frequent. 

In January 2008, GWP-CEE – together with Women in Europe for a Common Future, the European Water Partnership, KIWA Water Research, Coalition Clean Baltic, and Coram Industries – organised a high-level policy dialogue on EU Sanitation Policies and Practices in the 2008 International Year of Sanitation in Brussels, Belgium.

Over the years, GWP Romania and GWP Ukraine have stepped in to facilitate communication between government and non-government actors on water, health and the environment. This has helped shape ways and tools to translate the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Water and Health Protocol Initiative into action.

In 2006-2007 the GWP Country Water Partnerships of twelve countries in Central and Eastern Europe organised national IWRM dialogues.

GWP Estonia participated in a roundtable discussion at the Ministry of Environment about damming and on April 17 hydropower use of Estonian rivers.

The GWP CEE delegation will participate in the third Conference on the EU Strategy for the Danube Region.

Web based meeting of GWP CEE Regional Council takes place on 7 April 2010.

GWP CEE participated in the Roundtable on Decentralized Waste Water Treatment on 18 March in Sofia.
