The IRF European Riverprize will celebrate successful approaches that have overcome the challenges of river restoration, ecosystem health, water quality and climate change within the social and political context of the European continent. GWP is a cooperating Partner of the Riverprize.
2013 Riverprize timeline
- Applications open 10 October 2012
- Stage one applications close 29 March 2013
- Shortlisted applicants notified mid April 2013
- Stage two applications close 31 May 2013
- Finalists announced early July 2013
The candidates of each category will be judged by a panel of European experts and the winners are announced in September 2013.
The first IRF European Riverprize will be awarded in 2013 during the International Year for Water Cooperation at the European Centre for River Restoration annual conference in Vienna. Please click here for a list of eligible countries. It is administered from the IRF Europe office in Vienna.
Assessment of Candidates
Applications will be assessed based on a documented river management framework, evidence of social and economic gains, an integrated approach to river management, long-term vision and demonstrated, outstanding achievements in river ecology.
The European winner will qualify as an automatic finalist in the Thiess International Riverprize the following year.
