Integrated and Adaptive Water Resources Planning, Management and Governance is a two-month online programme designed for professionals and advanced students to upgrade their skills in water management concepts and practices for solving problems at the watershed and sub-watershed levels. Participants will improve their skills in IWRM, adaptive management, planning, governance and capacity building. They will acquire knowledge and skills required to address urgent needs in the water resources sector.
The specific focus of the programme is watershed planning techniques, adaptive management strategies, capacity building approaches, water governance, and water business risk assessment to strengthen integrated water resources management capacities globally.
The online programme was developed by experts in water resources management and includes active online discussions, flexible learning and weekly modules. It uses a web-based system and a comprehensive e-textbook written for this course.
The objectives of the programme are to:
- Improve water resources management through the implementation of applicable and effective integrated management tools and techniques;
- Strengthen the principles of governance, planning, adaptive management and capacity building in local, regional and transboundary water resources regimes;
- Provide participants with the competencies to develop skills and knowledge required for urgent needs in the water resources sector.
GWP will provide knowledge resources on all aspects related to IWRM, including Water Resources Planning and Water Governance, Law and Policy through its knowledge platform, the IWRM Toolbox.
Upon successful completion of the programme, participants will receive a letter of attestation and a certificate of completion from the Department of Bioresource Engineering, McGill University.
The programme is offered for the second time and starts on September 30, 2013.
