GWP at Africa Water Week 2016

The 6th Africa Water Week (AWW6) takes place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on 18-22 July. The event is convened by the African Ministers Council on Water (AMCOW) together with the African Union Commission and other development partners. GWP will convene/co-convene a number of sessions.

The theme of AWW6 week is ‘Achieving the SDGs on Water Security and Sanitation’, with four sub-themes:

  • Achieving Universal and Equitable Access to Water and Sanitation for All.
  • Ensuring Water security and Climate Resilience.
  • Strengthening Productive Wastewater Management and Improved Water Quality.
  • Improving Policy, Financing and Monitoring.

GWP Message

GWP Chair Dr. Oyun Sanjaasuren has recorded a video message on the occasion of the event. One of her key messages is that inadequate investment in Africa’s water security constrains social progress and economic development.

On Wednesday 20 July GWP is lead convener of a high level session: “Project preparation for investments in Water, Climate and Development in Africa”. The session will explore opportunities for a strengthened continental mechanism and initiatives for supporting African countries to leverage finance and investments from public and private sector.

In addition, GWP is involved in several of the technical sessions. GWP Southern Africa has further details on the week’s events.
