Minister of Water Resources in China stresses need for more cooperation with GWP

The GWP Steering Committee Meeting was held 18-21 May 2010 in Beijing.

The meeting commemorated GWP China’s 10th anniversary with an evening reception on 18 May, and the launch of a Briefing Note entitled “GWP China: A Decade of Impact”. GWP was invited the following evening by Mr. Chen Lei, the Chinese Minister of Water Resources, to a banquet at the State Guest House in Beijing.

High-Level Meeting in ChinaThe Minister expressed a desire to strengthen the cooperation with GWP in order to promote sustainable development and the protection of global water resources. One area he suggested for cooperation would involve sharing advanced technologies, experiences and concepts of water resources management in a partnership mode with other countries via the GWP network. GWP Chair Dr. Letitia A. Obeng underlined China's achievements in water resources management and the country’s progress in addressing the UN Millenium Development Goals for access to water supply and sanitation.
