GWP Regions

This is where you can find links to the websites of our Regional Water Partnerships (RWPs). RWPs are closest to the countries where we work. They share knowledge and learning across national boundaries and are expected to have an open, inclusive, and gender-sensitive policies for bringing together as wide a group of stakeholders as possible to solve water problems.

Training the Next Generation

A key part of ensuring that future water practitioners take an integrated approach to managing water resources is to target those training young water professionals. GWP Central America is strengthening its work with universities to provide them with knowledge and information on water resources management. In recent months, Country Water Partnerships and the Regional Secretariat have organized events for the academic community.

GWP Costa Rica hosted a workshop with five of the top universities, who sent representatives from different programs. The participants worked on identifying guidelines to help establish a working group of academic institutions interested in promoting IWRM. The workshop was held in San José, Costa Rica on the 14^th of November 2011.
GWP Honduras organized a forum on "Water and Climate Change" with students and faculty from the National University on the 24th of November 2011. One result was the reactivation of a student “Water Group".
GWP Guatemala co-coordinated a workshop with the Latin American Faculty for Social Sciences (FLACSO), the National Forest Institute (INAB) and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, to promote the establishment of a group of academic institutions interested in promoting IWRM. The title of the workshop was “Producing knowledge for IWRM and its application in risk management in Guatemala” and included a presentation on IWRM and how it could be included as a topic of discussion in the academic setting. Representatives from four major universities where present, as well as GWP Partners, and representatives of government and civil society. The event was held on the 24th of November 2011 in Guatemala City.
GWP Panamá organized a workshop on the use of GWP’s IWRM Toolbox on the 20th of December in Panama City. Faculty from various universities assisted and participated in the workshop, which included a session on identifying common interests among the universities to promote the sharing of knowledge on the management of water.
