Danube Strategy includes integrated approach

In December 2010 the European Commission adopted the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region, the first ever guide to medium-term development of the Danube area.

As a result of GWP Central and Eastern Europe interventions, the Strategy now includes important IWRM principles. GWP has been pushing for these – sustainable water management, alternative treatments for wastewater in small communities and consideration for marginalised groups in planning water services – on a wide front for many years.
