Maesot is one example of many urban areas in the Southeast Asian region, where communities are in transition, going from an agrarian society to one of intense urbanization due to recent economic developments. In this process of change, natural disasters have intensified, thereby increasing the risks and losses to lives and assets.
Key actors realized that in order to cope with increased flooding and solve many problems, they needed to apply a holistic view and be systematic in terms of water management. This led to collaboration with GWP Thailand, which gave them access to knowledge and information.
