“This workshop is meant to give voice to what has been done and needs to be completed in The Gambia for this country to be among the first ones in the process,” said GWP Communications Officer, Mr. Sidi Coulibaly, as he outlined the aims of the meeting.
The Minister of Fisheries, Water Resources and Matter with Parliament, Honourable Mass Axi Gye, opened the workshop. He encouraged the Gambian journalists to be active participants in the ratification process of the 1997 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Non-Navigational Uses of International Watercourses.
The advocacy for the ratification started in the Gambia in September 2011 and since then a lot of activities have been done. The IWRM focal person, Mr. Yusupha Bojang said he hopes that the Convention will be ratified by The Gambia before the end of 2013.
GWP West Africa has been working actively with its journalistic network over the last few years. The full story on the workshop is on their webpage.
