Regional Perspectives in the Bonn2011 Nexus Conference

The priority questions presented by the Bonn2011 Nexus Conference Organizers were discussed during the GWP Consulting Partners Meeting in August 2011, attended by representatives from all 13 GWP Regions,

They were also discussed at the GWP Regional Steering Committee meetings in the following regions: Central and Eastern Europe (representatives of 13 countries), Southern Africa (representatives of 12 countries) and South East Asia (representatives of 9 countries). Views on existing processes and what further actions need to be undertaken to institutionalize an integrated approach were discussed in detail in the three regional meetings.

Following from this process GWP provides a background paper based on experience and examples from different Global Water Partnership Regions to help with understanding the nexus. Furthermore, it discusses opportunities and approaches to addressing the three areas in a more integrated way within and across national boundaries; highlights the importance of looking at these development areas from a non-water perspective; and finally discusses the important role that different stakeholders need to play.

The findings will be presented by Letitia Obeng, Chair, Global Water Partnership, in the Bonn 2011 plenary session “Understanding the Nexus”, Wednesday, 16 November at 14-15.30.

GWP Executive Secretary Dr Ania Gorbicki will be a panellist in the UN Water session "The Road to Rio" on the topic "How are we heading for Rio, the MDGs and beyond", Wednesday, 16 November at 12-13.
