Training on International Water Law in Africa

GWP and four of its partner institutions are organising a joint training on International Water Law (IWL) in Africa. The training will take place in Kampala, Uganda, 5-12 June 2016. It is open for up to 40 participants, and funding is available for 30 African-based participants. Deadline expired: Applications are no longer accepted for this training.

The aim of the training is to improve transboundary water management in Africa. The partners behind the training, apart from GWP, are the University of Dundee (UK), Makerere University (Uganda), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the African Network for Basin Organizations (ANBO).

Target Group

Primary candidates for the training are mid- to high-level practitioners and professionals from river basin organisations and governments (i.e. Foreign Affairs ministries, ministries in charge of water affairs, legislators, water management agencies, etc.) who have a role in negotiating, drafting or reforming treaties and legislations, planning, decision-making on transboundary waters.

The training will also consider a limited number of GWP Africa Partners who are in position to contribute with specialised knowledge and experience on water governance in international watercourses.

Requirements

Applicants must have a university degree in Hydrology, Environmental Science, Earth Sciences, Law, Agriculture, International Relations or a related field. They must also be recommended by IGAD, ANBO, GWP, or regional economic communities.

A maximum of 40 participants will be accepted and funding is available for 30 of these. However, only applicants who are working and based in an African country are eligible to receive funding. The other 10 spaces are open for self-sponsored participants.
