The 4th Asia Pacific Water Summit

The Asia-Pacific Water Summit, also known as the 4th APWS, was already held on April 23-24, 2022, in Kumamoto City, Japan. The event brought together high-level delegates from the Asia-Pacific region, including heads of state and representatives from international organizations, to discuss a variety of water-related issues. GWP actively participated in the conference, providing insights on water and its relation to youth, gender, climate, governance, finance, and the SDGs.

“Footprints of GWP South Asia: from Mr Nanda Abeywickrama’s eyes” – a Founder Member of GWP- SASTAC

Mr Nanda Abeywickrama, (former Secretary, Ministry of Lands and Land Development (1978-88) and Director, International Co-operation (1988-94) also worked as a Special Adviser to the Director General of the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) from 1997 to 2005. In 1998, Mr Abeywickrama’s name was recommended by the then Director General, IWMI and appointed as a founding member of the Global Water Partnership Technical Advisory Committee for South Asia (SASTAC). Later, he held the position of Regional Chair of GWP South Asia (GWP SAS) from 2005 when the SAS Secretariat was moved to Sri Lanka under the hosting agreement with IWMI. He served as the Chair, GWP SAS from 2005-06 and weaned away from work gradually. Currently, Mr Abeywickrama is in his retirement living with his beloved wife in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Malawi strategies on climate smart water solutions in quest to achieve universal access by 2030

From a distance, Kalima Primary School in Chikwawa district in the Southern part of Malawi looks like any other public school in the country; happy children running up and down around the school campus but cautious of the scotching heat. Temperatures in Chikwawa can get as high as 40 degrees Celsius and yet, the only water tap at the school is mostly dry. Children must brave both the heat and unending desire to quench their thirst.

GWP China Fujian On Water Sharing

GWP China Senior TEC Advisor, Guoliang CHEN, former Chair of GWP China Fujian and member of the Standing Committee of the ninth Fujian Provincial People's Congress, donated his publication "Drink Water from The Same River - 23 Years of Water Sharing Between Fujian & Taiwan" to the Fujian-Taiwan Museum in Quanzhou, Fujian Province, late February 2022.
